APPOINTMENT FOR EXAMINATION
All patients have to schedule time for an appointment for an examination. Questions about diseases and disorders are only answered during examination appointments. A patient has to be examined to be able to answer specific questions about unique individuals. Examination is a ground criteria to be able to make an adequate judgement of the conditions of a specific patient. The examination serves a very important purpose concerning the therapeutic treatment with LASER, how it should be conducted and when it should take place. An examination lasts for about 50 minutes.

These symptoms are treated at the clinic with the following priority:

1.   Hyperacusis (oversensitivity to sound – patients with a sound pain threshold below 90 dB)
2.   Sudden Deafness (patients who have recently lost part of their hearing capacity)
3.   Tinnitus (patients with sounds in their ears – both objective and subjective tinnitus)
4.   A feeling of fullness in the ears
5.   Otitis (patients with inflammatory processes in their ears)
6.   Ménière
7.   Balance Disorders
8.   Distortion, Diplacusis (patients with sound distortion and twanged tones)
9.   Chronic Hearing Impairment / Deafness
10. Other Hearing and Balance Disorders
11. Other Diseases and Symptoms (Trigeminal Neuralgia and Stroke)

At the clinic Audio Laser-Kliniken the aim of treatment is to repair damaged cells and cell parts in underfunctional organs. The treatment is highly specialized and there are not too many specialists in the entire world who have enough competence to do this. The treatment is based upon "science and / or well tried experience" according to international specifications for evidence based medicine. In Sweden and many other countries these methods are used as complementary treatment and are not offered in institutional medical care. The medical institutions don't have adequate medical equipment, competence and/or knowledge to be able to offer this treatment.

Time for examination is very limited in comparison with the number of patients who can be treated at the clinic. Patients who are not sure about whether they want to get the treatment at Audio Laser-Kliniken shouldn't schedule an appointment at the clinic for examination.

HOW TO GET IN CONTACT WITH THE CLINIC
If you don't get any answer when you call the clinic to schedule an appointment it might depend on the fact that examination or treatment is in progress or that there is no one at the clinic. You can send an e.mail to the clinic. Please write down a brief description about your symptoms and when you want to be examined.

BEFORE EXAMINATION - IMPORTANT!
Before the examination, tinnitus patients should self-examine the oral cavity and palpate it (press) with a finger for 3-4 seconds on every spot inside the oral cavity. If the patient during this self-diagnostic test discovers spots that increase or decrease the tinnitus symptoms when pressure is applied, this should be registered and written down and reported to the clinic at the examination. The patient should also apply pressure on every spot on the cranium including the neck, the shoulders and the jaw. Turning and twisting the head is also important in self-examination and can cause temporal changes in tinnitus symptoms.

Clean your ears before coming to the examination. Too much wax in the ear sometimes makes the examination impossible. If the ears are not well cleaned at the examination it might result in a delay in treatment of up to eight months.

Bring your copies of recent hearing tests at other clinics. Old hearing tests can give a hint about the development of the progression of impaired hearing, and that is important and sometimes vital information. Other findings can also be of great value. These could be from x-ray or tomography or magnetic resonance images. Results from brain stem audiometry and other examinations can be of importance. A list of pharmaceutical drugs used and when they were used is also important to look at.

THE FORT ANALYSIS IS IMPORTANT
To be able to have an adequate opinion of the status of an ear and its condition it is necessary to take a look into it by looking through an otoscope / aurioscope. To neglect doing such an examination is of course not acceptable. The examination moment is a basic necessity in order to be able to estimate the LASER light doses that could be required while treating the individual. A person without experience, education or knowledge about the ear and this examination method can of course not make any adequate judgements about the ear and its condition.

The FORT analysis (Free Oxygen Radicals Test) is a test that in a way measures the healing capacity of the individual. Sometimes it can be important to delay the start of the treatment, mainly when the FORT analysis displays a much too high level of free oxygen radicals. Eating antioxidant tablets is one way to control the free radical levels. Usually the treatment can be started at the next treatment period, but there are cases when the levels should be more normal before starting the treatment.
